Duel PvP Tetris strategy: garbage, combos and reading your opponent
Tetris in the Duel Arena is a fight: every line you clear sends junk to your opponent, and the first stack to hit the ceiling loses. Here are the rules as Duel shows them, the garbage table, and how to build, attack and dig.
How Tetris works on Duel
These rules come from the Tetris rules panel in the lobby, read on October 14, 2026. Two players, one goal: bury the other. Clear lines to dump garbage on your opponent and make their stack overflow before yours does.
- The goal. Slot the falling pieces together so a whole row fills up, and full rows disappear. Every line you clear throws junk rows at your opponent. When their pile hits the ceiling they top out and you win; if yours does, you are gone.
- Garbage arrives at the bottom of your board, with one gap to dig through. Keep clearing and you cancel incoming junk before it lands.
- It gets nastier over time. The longer a match drags on, the more damage everyone deals, and sitting back gets you buried.
The lobby has a Play Demo button for a game with no opponent.
The garbage table
On top of that, Duel's rules say that combos (clears on back-to-back pieces: the longer the streak, the harder it hits), Back-to-Back (chaining Tetrises or spins without a break for bonus damage), T-spins (wedging a T into a tight notch) and wiping the whole board clean all hit harder. The rules panel does not give those amounts, so test them in the demo mode.
Controls
Build a clean stack and dig fast
- Keep the surface flat. Holes are what turn a good stack into a dead one. Place each piece where it leaves the fewest gaps.
- Use hold well. Stash the piece you need later, such as a long bar, so you do not force it into a bad spot.
- Leave a well. Keep one column open on the side and stack the rest, so a long bar can clear four lines at once.
- Dig through garbage. Each junk row has one gap. Line your next pieces up with the gap and clear lines as soon as you can: clearing also cancels incoming junk.
- Do not panic when junk is coming. Duel's rules say that if you keep clearing, you cancel it before it lands.
Attack efficiently
- Singles do nothing. A single line sends no garbage. Use it to survive or to cancel incoming junk, not to attack.
- Aim for bigger clears. Three lines send two rows and four lines send four, so stack for bigger clears when you are safe.
- Chain attacks. Combos and Back-to-Back make each clear hit harder. A steady chain beats a single big move that comes too late.
- Learn T-spins last. They hit hard but need practice. Build the basics first, in the demo mode.
- Do not tower for too long. A tall stack looks powerful, but a few rows of garbage can bury it.
Reading your opponent
The two boards sit side by side, so you can read your opponent's stack as you play:
Remember that longer matches deal more damage, so the player who waits is usually the one who gets buried.
Practice and fair play
Use the Play Demo button to learn the controls and the garbage rules with no opponent. Do not use macros, scripts or any tool that plays for you: that is cheating and can get an account closed. Check Duel's terms for the exact rules.
Duel PvP Tetris FAQ
How does garbage work in Duel PvP Tetris?
Clearing two lines at once sends 1 row of garbage, three lines send 2 and a full Tetris (four lines) sends 4. A single line sends nothing. Garbage arrives at the bottom of your board with one gap, and clearing lines cancels incoming junk before it lands.
How do I win a Duel Tetris match?
You win when your opponent's pile hits the ceiling and they top out. If yours hits the ceiling first, you lose.
What are Back-to-Back and T-spins in Duel Tetris?
Back-to-Back means chaining Tetrises or spins without a break to charge bonus damage. A T-spin is wedging a T piece into a tight notch. Duel's rules say both hit harder, and so does wiping the whole board clean, but they do not give the amounts.
What are the controls in Duel Tetris?
Arrow keys or A and D move the piece, Down or S drops it faster, Space hard-drops it, Up, W or X rotate it, Z rotates it the other way, V flips it 180 degrees, and Shift or C holds a piece. On a phone, swipe to slide, tap to spin and flick down to drop.
Is there a free practice mode for Duel Tetris?
Yes. The lobby has a Play Demo button for a game with no opponent.
Is there a guaranteed way to win at Duel Tetris?
No. A clean stack and steady attacks improve your chances, but a better player can beat you in any match. Only stake money you can afford to lose.
